one of the band players posted at 6:05 AM:
Hey batch! <3
True, true, that some of our posts are a bit irrelevant and lame, but I oppose to deleting them! They should be left as they are, untouched, as memories. So that when we look back we'll realize how much we've grown, righto?
Anyway, speaking of growing, I think our batch has improved tremendously in the past year. But there is still room for improvement! A lot of room for improvement! So much room that you can fit the whole band in and there'll still be space!
OK, so that was weird. But anyway. What Yi An posted was very true - why is it always the same people coming down for batch bonding in the morning? I mean, we really gotta start building our batch spirit, since one year has already passed. Next year, when we change classes, your classmates will be gone, and we'll be the only people you have left. So please, do make an effort to come down at least once in a while to just have a nice talk or something! You can't be rushing homework everyday right! And you can also do homework in the batch corr too - in fact, you'll get a lot of homework help!
More importantly, attendance-taking! I know this may sound really minor to some of you, but have you realized that saying YES low and loud is a tradition that has been passed on for many batches? Yeah, I see guilty looks already. The Secondary Ones have come in already, and we can't afford to set a bad example. Especially not now, when SYF is next year and they'll be playing too. We need to show them what standard our band has, and that they must meet that standard. And we can start by just saying our YES low and loud! Of course that's not all, but it's setting a good example. Which is uber important, in case you haven't realized we're seniors already.
Most importantly, indiving. I know we've improved a lot, but it's not enough! We really need to push even harder, now that the NTU band concert is less than 10 days away. Give not only your best, but 110% of it! We've spent so much time on Perseus - let's do this together, and do it well. I'm sure we don't want to let our seniors down, let our directs down, let RGSSB down nor let Mr. Oura down! It's such a beautiful song, and we must do justice do it. So please please please just practice really hard so that we can show our stuff to Mr. Yagisawa OK! Please please please stop slacking off during indiv time, no matter how tempting it is. Please please please have integrity and clock only hours you've been working hard for. And although only 4 hours are required, do indiv at home too OK! Or just clock more hours - it won't hurt. We really really need to start pushing ourselves hard, and I don't know how to inspire you, but I hope this post will help motiviate you. But only you can find determination to practice frequently!
I think Sheryl's e-mail will work a lot better. Read it and memorize it or something, as long as you get that push. I don't know about you guys, but Cadenza XII is really very important to me. In our journey through band, we're lucky enough to get TWO Cadenzas. I think it's so much more fun preparing so many songs for Cadenza, but it's also a lot more difficult than just one song for SYF. Unlike SYF, we're not going to get judged, but I'm sure we won't feel good if we play badly and let ourselves down either.
And yeah, I bet some of you don't even check the batch blog or read our e-mails. Which is frustrating and very AAAHHHH. But for those of you who do, here is what I have to say (actually a lot more but it's already quite lengthy) and I do hope you'll read it and really think about it. And you're very welcome to post more inspiring posts OK!
Love,
Xin Hui <3
